Food is Fuel!

The truth is that sometimes life can be difficult or overwhelming. Sometimes we get thrown curve balls that knock us down–and that’s ok–but it’s important to respond to those emotions with conscious action.

How many of you have turned to the refrigerator when your stressed or upset about something? How many times have you opened the door and stared at that bottle of soda, or piece of chocolate, or bag of potato chips? Or what about when you’re happy? When you got that promotion, did you celebrate with an extravagant meal?

We live in a world where food, not nutrition, is in focus and as a result food has become a stand-in therapist we reach for when emotions get the better of us. I feel like we’ve forgotten that food is FUEL for our bodies that enables us to do what we want to do, it’s not there to feed a spiral of emotions.

The next time you find yourself in a wave of emotions, happy or sad, stop. Stop and take a moment to honor what you’re feeling. Recognize the emotion and find a way to express it, don’t look for answers or momentary gratification in the fridge!
